Sri Lanka will witness massive protests and demonstrations if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe do not resign by Wednesday (July 13th). The organizers of the protest and the union leaders have given such a warning. News from the BBC.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa has already announced his resignation. But there are doubts among protesters about the promise. Many blame Sri Lanka's unprecedented economic crisis on President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Public life in the country has come to a standstill due to power, energy, food, and medical crises.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said he will hand over power to an all-party interim government after Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns. But many Sri Lankans want the prime minister to resign immediately. Because, if Gotabaya resigns, according to the constitution of the country, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will automatically take the presidency for 30 days.

Father Jivantha Paris, the organizer of the protests, told the BBC that if they (the president and prime minister) did not resign by July 13, the Sri Lankan people would take the protests to another level.

One of the protesting union leaders confirmed the protest, saying that trade unions and human rights groups had agreed that they would launch a large-scale protest on the 14th with the ongoing protests.

Student leader Wasantha Mudalig warned that if the president and prime minister wanted to fool the people of the country, they would have to suffer. Because, in that case, the strictest program will start across the country. The protests in Colombo will be more intense than Saturdays.
