Health workers have staged mass protests in Peru demanding improved working conditions and job security. They have threatened a nationwide strike if the demand is not met.

Thousands of health workers took to the streets in the capital, Lima, on Thursday (July 8th). They chanted slogans demanding placards. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by bus. Then the two sides clashed when they tried to break the barricade.

In the last two years, the Corona epidemic has caused widespread mismanagement in Peru's health sector. At the same time, the workload of health workers increases. In the Latin American country of Kovida, the death toll is over 6,000 per 1 million, the highest in the world.
